About passport photo sizes

Why do the sizes differ between countries?
Each country sets its own standard. Most of Europe uses 35 × 45 mm; the United States uses 2 × 2 inches.
What does 300 DPI mean here?
It is the resolution used for photo printing. It converts a physical size in millimetres into a pixel size a portal can check.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Cropping and resizing happen in your browser, which is exactly what you want for an identity document.
