QR Code Generator — FAQ

How much text can a QR hold?
With byte-mode encoding and error correction level M, roughly 1,800 characters. Longer text needs a higher version or lower correction level.
Why keep a quiet zone?
Scanners need a border of light modules around the code to locate it reliably. The white margin is added automatically.
How much can one code hold?
With byte-mode encoding and the error correction level used here, roughly eighteen hundred characters. Longer text needs a larger or a differently corrected code.
Will it scan every time?
Not always. Size, contrast and lighting all matter, and a camera has to be able to focus. Testing with a real phone on the actual printed item is the only reliable check.
Does the encoded text leave my device?
No. Encoding happens in the page, so whatever you encode is not sent anywhere.
