Compress an Image to 1 MB
Hit exactly 1 MB or smaller, in your browser. The tool scales and then binary-searches the JPEG quality so the file lands under the limit instead of roughly near it.

Why 1 MB?
The usual ceiling for avatars, forum attachments and small web uploads.
A single compression pass rarely lands on a specific size, because file size depends on image detail as much as on quality. This tool encodes repeatedly, narrowing the quality range each time, until the result is under 1 MB — then it stops, so you keep as much quality as the limit allows.
How it gets there
- Load — the image is decoded in the browser from the file you chose.
- Scale if needed — if the pixels alone cannot get under 1 MB, the longest edge is reduced step by step.
- Search the quality — JPEG quality is tested between 0.2 and 0.95 until the file fits.
- Download — the result is generated on your machine. Nothing was ever sent anywhere.

Compress an Image to 1 MB — FAQ
Will the quality be badly damaged?
Only as much as the limit forces. The tool keeps the highest quality that still fits under 1 MB.
What if my image cannot get that small?
The tool reduces the pixel dimensions as well as the quality, so it will reach the target — very small targets do mean a visibly smaller image.
Is the output a JPEG?
Yes. JPEG is the only common format with a quality dial, which is what makes an exact target possible.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser using the canvas API — there is no upload on this page at all.
