Passport Photo Compressor

Hit exactly 240 KB or smaller, in your browser. The tool scales and then binary-searches the JPEG quality so the file lands under the limit instead of roughly near it.

Why 240 KB?

Most passport and visa portals want a small JPEG at a fixed pixel size. Set both at once and stop guessing.

A single compression pass rarely lands on a specific size, because file size depends on image detail as much as on quality. This tool encodes repeatedly, narrowing the quality range each time, until the result is under 240 KB — then it stops, so you keep as much quality as the limit allows.

How it gets there

  1. Load — the image is decoded in the browser from the file you chose.
  2. Scale if needed — if the pixels alone cannot get under 240 KB, the longest edge is reduced step by step.
  3. Search the quality — JPEG quality is tested between 0.2 and 0.95 until the file fits.
  4. Download — the result is generated on your machine. Nothing was ever sent anywhere.

Passport Photo Compressor — FAQ

Will the quality be badly damaged?
Only as much as the limit forces. The tool keeps the highest quality that still fits under 240 KB.
What if my image cannot get that small?
The tool reduces the pixel dimensions as well as the quality, so it will reach the target — very small targets do mean a visibly smaller image.
Is the output a JPEG?
Yes. JPEG is the only common format with a quality dial, which is what makes an exact target possible.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser using the canvas API — there is no upload on this page at all.
