Practical tips
- List clean, canonical URLs only. Including tracking parameters splits one page across many entries.
- Turn on last-modified dates only if they are accurate — a date that changes on every build tells a crawler nothing.
What you get
- Pre-filled with a sensible default page list
- Automatic URL encoding
- Optional lastmod dates
- Valid XML your validator will accept
- Download or copy in one click
Sitemap Generator — FAQ
Does this file get submitted anywhere automatically?
No. You download the XML and upload it to your server, then add it in Google Search Console (or another webmaster tool).
How many URLs should a sitemap have?
Keep it under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB. For small sites, a single file is perfect.
How many URLs should a sitemap contain?
Every canonical page you want indexed. If it passes a few thousand, splitting it into a sitemap index is the usual next step.
Does a sitemap get a page indexed?
Not on its own. It helps crawlers discover URLs, but the page still has to be crawlable and indexable to appear in results.
