BMI Calculator — FAQ

How is BMI calculated?
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared (kg/m2). The imperial result is the same once pounds and inches are converted.
What is a healthy BMI?
For most adults a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy. The number is a population guideline and does not account for muscle, bone density or body shape.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
No. Trained athletes can have a high BMI from muscle, and older adults may carry more fat at a normal BMI. Use it as a starting point, not a diagnosis.
