When people reach for this tool

State growth or decline precisely

A percentage change is far clearer in a report than two raw numbers.

See how much a metric moved between releases

Direction matters as much as magnitude, and the sign shows it.

Check whether a jump is real or an artefact

An implausibly large change often points at a broken measurement rather than reality.

Practical tips

  • The original value is the denominator,Measuring growth from the new value gives a different and wrong number. Check which figure you are treating as the base.
  • Report direction with the number,A signed figure or an explicit increase or decrease avoids the reader having to infer which way it moved.

Percentage Change Calculator — FAQ

Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded to any server.
Is it really free?
Every Social-X tool is free, unlimited and works offline.
Why is the percentage change not simply the difference?
A difference is absolute and a percentage is relative. The same change is a large percentage of a small number and a small percentage of a large one, which is why both are worth stating.
What about a fall to zero?
The change is then expressed as a fall of one hundred percent, because the whole of the original value has been lost. Going from zero to something has no percentage, since there is no base to compare against.
